The construction of the Dubai's Ladybird Nursery which is the first LEED Gold-certified early learning facility in the region, was recently completed in the Jumeirah Village Circle. LEED, or Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design, is a green building certification programme that recognises best-in-class building strategies and practices, whilst also enhancing sustainability - whether it's recycling, reducing CO2 emissions, using energy-efficient fans and lighting, or efficient water usage.
Dubai's Ladybird Nursery uses an air-conditioning system that switches off automatically when windows are opened, while air-conditioning drain water is recycled and reused for irrigation. Moreover, each of the 15 classrooms use energy-efficient fans and lighting. Of course doors and windows are also very crucial when it comes to high energy efficiency. That’s why ALUMIL highly energy efficient SMARTIA systems were chosen for this particular project. Specifically, the sturdy hinged system SMARTIA M11000, the advanced curtain wall system SMARTIA M50 and the exceptional bi-folding door SMARTIA M19800 were used to “seal” this modern building and offer ideal living conditions.
The client’s decision to get accredited for the LEED Gold rating was because research has shown that long-term respiratory illnesses can arise as a result of ”sick buildings”. So, it was of great importance to make sure that the children, aged from 4 months to 5 years, would live in an eco-friendly building that incorporates energy efficiency and sustainable solutions, assuring healthiness and well-being.
