Cosentino Group supports the best architecture of Spain in the XIII Biennial of Spanish Architecture and Urbanism

Cosentino Group acts as partner company of the XIII Biennial of Spanish Architecture and Urbanism (BEAU), giving its strong support for the best architecture that has developed over the last two years (2013-2015) in our country.

The Director of Communication and Marketing of Cosentino Group, Santiago Alfonso, was present yesterday in what was the official presentation of the exhibition "Alternatives / Alternatives", composed of all the selected works, finalists and awarded in the XIII edition of the BEAU in the following three sections: 1) Heritage and Transformation; Urbanism: Landscape and City; 2) Research and Outreach; and 3) Thesis of architecture students.

The exhibition displays 89 works in total stand for raising different ways of dealing with current problems that architecture and urbanism face in an era of landscape restoration and renewal of urban space and buildings. The current edition of the BEAU has recognized the talent of those architects who have contributed intelligent, ingenious and innovative building solutions with limited resources and have incorporated into their projects concepts as the economy of means, adaptation to local conditions and resources, recycling, build on what has been built, the social transfer or collective participation.

According to the different sections, the 89 distinguished works are distributed:

1) 22 architectural projects in the categories of Heritage and Transformation; and Urbanism: Landscape and City. Of these 22 winners, the jury selected the work presented by 15 architects to compete for Spain in the X Biennial Iberoamericana of Architecture and Urbanism (BIAU).

2) 15 projects in the Research section. It has also recognized the work of dissemination of 32 publications, exhibitions, scholarly articles and blogs.

3) 20 Thesis.

That presentation took place yesterday in a unique location, the Palace of Charles V of the Alhambra in Granada, and featured some participants renowned in the world of Spanish architecture, Begoña Díaz-Urgorri, architect and co- director of BEAU XIII, Juan Domingo Santos, architect and co-director of the XIII BEAU, Carmen Moreno Alvarez, architect and co-director of the XIII BEAU and Francisco Mangado, General Coordinator Biennials.

With the intention of showing the works of an informative way, the exhibition is also accompanied by an audiovisual installation that integrates images where different aspects of architecture and urbanism in relation to the context, the architectural space and materiality are included, along with testimonies architects authors of the works, and citizens and users who inhabit them.

The exhibition will be installed in the Alhambra until 12 October; thereafter, the exhibition "Alternatives / Alternatives" will be traveling and contemporary architecture of our country can be seen in other cities like New York.

The Palace of Charles V of the Alhambra in Granada also hosted yesterday at a gala evening, the awards ceremony at 22 architectural projects of the categories of Heritage and Transformation; and Urbanism: Landscape and City. The event was attended by Mr. Francisco Javier Martin, Deputy Director General of Architecture, Housing and Land in the Department of Architecture of the Ministry of Development.

The Spanish Biennial of Architecture and Urbanism (BEAU) is postulated once again as a great opportunity to show the world of architecture to society closer and outside the usual circuits form. Cosentino Group joins this collaboration to underwrite the creative talent of the new Spanish architecture, a talent that crosses borders and has recently been awarded the Golden Lion at the Venice Biennial XV.
