DÉSIRÉE AND MARC SADLER, A TALE OF LOVE AND PADDED FURNITURE

The story of an Austro-French designer narrated by the evolution of his sofas

The essence of Désirée creations is closely linked to one of its top designers, Marc Sadler. He began working with the company over ten years ago and since then has undergone extraordinary creative evolution, which year after year he has applied to models that have become milestones in the history of the Gruppo Euromobil brand dedicated to padded furniture.

Austrian by birth, holder of a French passport and Milanese by adoption, Sadler, a four time winner of the ‘Compasso d’Oro’, in 2007 debuted in Désirée with the Filo armchair, following up the next year with Kara, another armchair which became one of the brand’s best sellers.

Marc Sadler’s creations for Désirée include Glow-in, a singularly beautiful sofa. Like a timeless modern rug, this cosy, oversize model is ideal for contemporary homes and today’s ‘in’ places. Its large seats, which can be completed with islands, chaise longue, central and side elements and come with or without armrests, are relaxing for people of all ages but never banal: with its removable covers, Glow-in exploits our creativity to change its appearance.

The outstanding work Sadler does for Désirée has never stopped: this is clear from the creative evolution that has flown from the Glow-in model to Monopoli, a sofa that offers even more freedom for customisation. Oozing personality, it can interpret shape according to the taste of whoever chooses it, using backrests and armrests that can be positioned wherever required, making this model original and distinctive.

Then came last year’s exploit with Lovely Day, a centre room sofa conceived for sharing relaxing moments during the day or a romantic tête à tête. The sculptural metal foot it stands on is amazing and makes the sofa appear airy, almost suspended. If Sadler’s first two models were an invitation to dive into them, Lovely Day changed the paradigm, making uncluttered lines and contemporary styling the distinguishing feature of this padded item. It is a sofa-sculpture that can be modelled as required with mobile, self-supporting cushions that can be placed at different angles to ensure the right comfort for everyone.

This love story is still vibrant and has produced another hit in 2018: Haneda. This is a collection that sees the living room as a relaxation area, and represents the quintessence of Désirée’s philosophy of elegance united with functionality. Evolution is expressed by a ‘sofa-non-sofa’, i.e. a destructured system of mobile seats and backrests reminiscent of a tatami, evoking the mat that inspired its predecessor Glow-in. Another leitmotiv links Haneda to previous models: the backrest is also available without a seat, and can be matched with existing Désirée padded items by Sadler: Monopoli, Endor and Lovely Day.
