SETSU & SHINOBU ITO JAPANESE INSPIRATION FOR DÉSIRÉE PADDED FURNITURE

From minimal lines to cocooning shapes inspired by lotus flowers, the Shellon collection adds new designer items

The extraordinary contribution of Japanese designers Setsu & Shinobu Ito to items for Désirée divani is evident in the Shellon collection presented at the 2015 Salone. The project for a soft, airy collection is beautifully interpreted by the SHELLON BED, their first model for the Gruppo Euromobil brand, highly distinctive due to the three dimensional effect of a bed seemingly suspended above the floor.

The two designers’ intuition evolved naturally for the 2016 Salone, with the SHELLON IN bed, a variant whose sinuous headboard featuring irregular quilted folds unites with a floor-standing bed frame, which may also house a convenient storage unit.

The creativity of Setsu & Shinobu Ito reaches its peak with a new complementary item to be previewed by Désirée at the 2018 Salone del Mobile: the large, round SHELLON Island, which re-proposes the mood of the bed from the same collection, is a central sofa whose seats can be freely arranged.

The inspiration for SHELLON comes from the graceful structure of lotus flowers, an Oriental symbol of purity of body and soul; it epitomises the idea of a free, floating element set in natural surroundings. The line repeats the refined, uncluttered minimalism that distinguishes Setsu & Shinobu Ito, and marks Désirée as unique.
