METROBOWL: LIMITED EDITION

Frederik Roijé

Eight years ago Frederik Roijé designed the Metrobowl, a bowl which shows the metropolises of Amsterdam and New York.

To celebrate this and the amazing city of Amsterdam, Frederik Roijé added a limited edtion Metrobowl Amsterdam. The color gold is a reference to the Golden Age

Metropolises are unique for their history. They are also special in their geographical shape. Fascinated by the beauty of these geographical forms Frederik Roijé has put the worlds most beautiful and important metropolises on scale, literally and figuratively.

The result is a unique series of bowls, made of cast aluminum, titled Metrobowl. Available are the metropolises Amsterdam and New York.

Why this fascination for Amsterdam?

'Amsterdam has always been the city that inspired me most. The rich history in trading led to great arts and architecture. Especially the beauty of the old city centre and the canals keep surprising me. Today Amsterdam remains one of the leading cities in contemporary arts and design. It has the charm of village, and the energy of metropolises. There is no other city I would want to live and work in.'

The Metrobowls are made from casted aluminum. They are produced in series using a semi-automatic sand casting line. A pattern created sand molds. Liquid aluminum will be poured into the mold. Then the sand is removed and the Metrobowl is completed, ready to be finished by hand. Metrobowl is made in the Netherlands in a sustainable manner.
