Highest sound absorption without additional insulation materials

Securing optimum acoustics in open room designs often becomes a central challenge for construction companies, architects and planners. In open plan offices, conference centres or large foyers, ceilings are crucial in providing a pleasant atmosphere and positively influencing user performance. GKD's acoustic Silentmesh ceilings combine visual and functional properties to create representative interior spaces. Through further development of the composite (CMP) mesh, a 25 mm thick honeycomb supporting plate facilitates highly effective sound absorption without the need for additional absorbers such as mineral wool.

With its CMP mesh for large-area ceiling designs, GKD is catering to modern visual and acoustic interior design requirements. The construction, which takes the form of sandwich panels made of aluminium honeycomb base plates with laminated surface layer made of metallic mesh and an acoustic fleece as intermediate layer, combines exceptional stability with an attractive visual appearance. This makes the material ideally suited for designing high-quality, grid-free ceilings without any sagging. Further enhancements have also allowed the material's acoustic effectiveness to be improved even further. Constructed from a 25 mm thick honeycomb supporting plate – in contrast to the original version, where this plate is only 12 mm thick – and an intermediate acoustic fleece layer, the CMP mesh achieves sound-absorption values of up to αw = 0.9 without an extra layer of insulation. This renders additional insulation in the form of mineral wool superfluous. The overall construction therefore not only provides pleasant room acoustics, it is also completely fibre-free. At the same time, the CMP version improves both handling and cost effectiveness during installation and inspection work. Since all components are supplied from a single source, GKD also guarantees security during the phases of planning, logistics and implementation. The material's low weight also makes installation a breeze.
