Gorter fire-resistant roof hatch again passes fire test with flying colours

Gorter supplies a special series of fire-resistant steel roof hatches with RHTEI type designation and a fire-resistance class of EI120. These roof hatches recently underwent and passed new tests in accordance with European standard EN 1634-1:2014 and Australian standard AS 1530.4-2005. Testing was carried out by Efectis Nederland which, as an accredited testing institute, is part of the international Efectis Group that specialises in testing the fire-resistance of building materials.

Importance of fire-resistance for roof hatches

Strict requirements are set by various governments when it comes to the fire-resistance of buildings, the aim being to limit the fire and prevent accidents. It is often stipulated that buildings must be compartmentalised. This means that the building is divided into fire and smoke compartments, each of which must keep the fire inside the compartment for a specific time (30, 60 or 120 minutes). This is achieved by having fire-resistant partitions between the compartments in accordance with the applicable legal requirements. The roof hatch plays a decisive role in this separation because it helps prevent the fire from spreading (to the roof).

Fire-resistance according to EN 1634-1:2014 and AS 1530.4-2005

Testing in accordance with EN 1634-1:2014 and AS 1530.4-2005 showed that Gorter fire-resistant roof hatches amply meet the requirements and often have a longer resistance period than the 120 minutes specified by EN 13501-2:2007+A1:2009. The product is therefore classified officially as: E120, EI1120, EI2120.
