JONATHAN MUECKE OPEN OBJECTS

Creations from the "periphery of design"

Jonathan Muecke doesn’t like labels. Working from his studio in Minneapolis, Minnesota, he toes the line of design, teetering into art, architecture and back again. Indeed, his creations would be equally convincing in a private residence or modern art museum. Case in point: Step Stool is part of the collection at MAD in New York. For Open Objects, his second solo exhibition at Chicago’s Volume Gallery, Muecke presents six designs that deconstruct and revisit familiar objects. By playing with dimension, geometry, numbers, perception, Muecke changes viewer interactions. What appears to be a common object becomes a sight for contemplation, something to examine from every angle. So go ahead and change your perspective – the exhibition runs through November 9th.
