A carpet so disgusting you'll love it

Roadkill is pretty disgusting. That said, whenever we spot it, we’re overtaken by mixed feeling. On one hand, the repulsion forces you to look elsewhere, but on the other, a certain fascination makes you want to look – even though you know it’s wrong. In creating the Roadkill Carpet, Dutch designers Oooms play with that side of us.

Both repulsive and kind of funny, this carpet makes us realize that some of our reactions can be silly. Indeed, when you think about it, we all crave violence and blood, yet we can’t stand the true sight of it. This might be why a car-flattened, carpet animal (looking so fluffy and jubilant) allows us to laugh and look at something we actually dread. Or perhaps we’re just used to seeing Wile E. Coyote pick himself up, undamaged, after being flattened by an anvil (how does he do it?).
