Mipim 2016

For four days, Cannes becomes the architecture and real estate market’s capital with a series of exhibitions, conferences and events involving over 1,500 architects.

Organised by Reed Midem, a subsidiary of Reed Exhibitions, Mipim, the international real-estate show for professionals, is now open in Cannes.

Many architectural firms exhibit their projects on their own stand and in groups under national banners. Sponsored by the French Ministry of Culture and Communication, the AFEX (Architectes Français à l’Export) and its partners attend Mipim to promote French architects abroad. At the new Architecture (by) France stand, Mipim attendees are able to find out about the projects entered for the AFEX Grand Prize for Architecture and the AJAP (architect and landscape designer competition) as well as attend a series of presentations on the topic of housing issues in the coming years.

For the ninth consecutive year, the German pavilion, brings together twenty-six architects including Eike Becker Architekten, Gerber Architekten, Kleihues+Kleihues, GRAFT, Hadi Teherani Architects, and Schneider+Schumacher. Among the national and international projects on show at the pavilion, Mipim attendees can see models of the new building of Munich Central Station presented by Auer Weber, the new BASF office tower in Dusseldorf exhibited by Eller+Eller Architekten, the Munich airport extension proposed by Koch+Partner, and the Upper North Tower mixed-use building in Düsseldorf presented by Sauerbruch Hutton Architekten.

The Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA) exhibits again this year in the London pavilion to promote twenty-two architectural firms including Rare Architecture, AndArchitects shedKM. RIBA also co-organizes a series of conferences on design that will examine a major city centre development.

This year Green Planet Architects, the international network of 800 architects from 80 countries dedicated to sustainable and ecological architecture, comes to Mipim for the first time to showcase over 600 sustainable projects from all corners of the globe.

Architecture takes pride of place in the Mipim conference programme, especially with the session entitled: “How to create value in architecture through art and design” where the speakers include Arik Levy, the internationally-recognized artist and designer.
