The Power of Ten: the '10 by Yatzer' Pop-Up Shop at Milan Design Week 2016

After 10 years of "residing" strictly within the confines of countless computer screens worldwide, Yatzer.com made its first foray into the physical realm on Monday, April 11, 2016 with the first ‘10 by Yatzer’ pop-up shop hosted at Spazio Pontaccio

It was concurrent to the unveiling of the beautiful, stained glass window-inspired, Credenza collection designed by Patricia Urquiola and Federico Pepe exclusively for Spazio Pontaccio; Frette + Spazio Pontaccio's first home ware collection designed by Le Dictateur; and CC-Tapis' new handmade rug collection, among others.

The venue, atmosphere and mood of the pristine spring evening couldn't have been any more celebratory as the smiles and laughter of hundreds of champagne-sipping guests representing Yatzer's global audience mingled to admire, examine and purchase the limited-edition items that were created exclusively for the first ‘10 by Yatzer’ collection by 10 talented designers, all of which were handpicked by Yatzer's founder, Costas Voyatzis. Released in limited editions ranging from one single unit to a maximum of 100, the products for the 2016 Edition have been customized in a restricted palette of black, white and gold or a combination of the three colors, thus bearing Yatzer’s “touch” and distinctive identity.

Costas - otherwise affectionately known as, "Mr. Yatzer"- was undoubtedly the man of the evening as he enthusiastically greeted and received every guest, excitedly posing for countless photos and gratefully sharing welcoming embraces. The event was a reunion of sorts as well, since many designers that have been featured in Yatzer's online pages over the past 10 years were also present in the crowd of guests who filled the pop-up shop and spilled out onto the sidewalk of Via Pontaccio 18. "I couldn't be any happier than I am at this moment," Costas said. "Debuting the 10 by Yatzer collection at Spazio Pontaccio, in the presence of all of these amazing and talented people whose work I greatly admire and with many of whom I've been so lucky to have featured in Yatzer or collaborated with over the past 10 years… is like a dream!"

A pop-up shop is an articulation of passion. It pops up because it cannot be contained and cannot wait to tell its story. This is the simple truth to 10 by Yatzer...

The striking scenography of the 10 by Yatzer pop-up shop proved to be the perfect backdrop and reflection of Yatzer.com’s minimally chic aesthetic: a black marble wallpaper by Dutch artist Piet Hein Eek from the Materials collection for NLXL covered the walls, while exquisite pieces of furniture - like the ‘Precious Crystal Storage’ safe cabinet by CTRLZAK Art & Design Studio for Spazio Pontaccio, two translucent ‘Wunderkammer’ high & low display cases by Piero Lissoni and the famously ethereal ‘Luminous Table’ by Tokujin Yoshioka all produced by GLAS Italia - perfectly showcased the 10 items in the collection. Finally, the set was magnificently crowned by the ‘Halo Oval’ pendant light fixture by American designer Paul Loebach for Roll & Hill, which cast a warm and welcoming golden glow throughout.

The items of the 10 by Yatzer collection (which will be available at Spazio Pontaccio until April 30th, 2016 at their online shop soon) each represent one or more of the themes that comprise the Yatzer universe - namely travel, architecture, design, art and fashion.

We've always been big fans of Yatzer.com and greatly appreciate its quality and aesthetic sensibilities. When we met with Costas in Milan during Men's Fashion week this past January, we both expressed a wish to create a project together. It took 5 seconds to find the right match: 10 by Yatzer at Spazio Pontaccio! We are proud to have hosted the first ever "materialisation" of Yatzer! The result is great!

Since this miniature masterpiece was first designed by renowned Greek jeweler, Minas, in 2008, only 12 Earth & Moon pendants have been crafted. Marking the debut of 10 by Yatzer, Minas agreed to create a single, entirely handcrafted 13th piece featuring 18kt yellow gold continents on an oxidized silver globe that spins on its axis under a platinum and a black rubber moon - ultimately an item dreams are truly made of!

The Binic Table Lamp, designed by Ionna Vautrin, was launched in 2010 by FOSCARINI. Inspired by a small lighthouse on the coast of Brittany, this small lamp is steeped in cute character and design appeal. This exclusive black version was especially custom designed and produced for 10 by Yatzer showcasing a matt finish upper supported by a conical, satin finish match-dyed ABS base make it an object that will fit in unobtrusively in every type of environment!

This exquisite large dinner plate represents the culmination of nearly 200 years of the Vista Alegre company’s history. Designed by the illustrious Sam Baron, it features a gilded rim and unique black motif comprised of digital renderings of drawings representing a distinctive composite of styles taken from several different decades found in Vista Alegre’s extensive archives. Just imagining a dinner table set with these incredible plates makes us want to throw a dinner party!

This Extra Virgin Olive Oil by Galateo & Friends has been produced using the old-fashioned, traditional way of pressing carefully chosen, ripe olives and pouring instead of straining the deep golden colored juice resulting in a full bodied flavor, making it the perfect accompaniment to any fresh Mediterranean fare. Designed to be proudly displayed on the dining table, these limited edition 250 ml ceramic bottles, which have been customized by Costas Voyatzis especially for 10 by Yatzer, are sure to enthrall both the gourmet foodie as well as the art connoisseur!

Featuring a limited edition, minimal geometric pattern which was created exclusively for the debut 10 by Yatzer collection, this stunning, "magic carpet" by CC-Tapis has been hand-woven in Nepal using the finest Himalayan wool and the most resplendent of silk threads which are hand dyed and then hand woven on a loom using an ancient method before each piece is washed, stretched and laid out to dry under the Kathmandu sun.

Mr. Marble is a limited edition customization of Miss Marble, i.e. Lorenza Bozzoli’s marble latch jar for Spazio Pontaccio, her new collection which (including marble jars and bottles of varying shapes and sizes) was just unveiled in the gallery beside the 10 by Yatzer pop-up. Having been redesigned to shine in polished all black Marquina marble, this robust latch jar is a perfect example of a useful masterpiece. Although light years away from the humble glass latch jar that stands as its inspiration, this beautifully hand-made reincarnation produced in the limited amount of 20 pieces, is the perfect, no-thought-needed hostess gift that’s created to be as indispensable in use as it is beautiful to behold.

This fully reversible pouch bag is at once both elegant and minimal, providing the perfect accompaniment to any outfit. Originally part of the TSATSAS collection, this exclusive version of the handmade, OTHER ONE pouch bag, each embossed with its own production number, has been customized for 10 by Yatzer in black and white with gold-toned hardware and features two large zip pockets.

The quote embossed on the cover of this beautifully crafted, gilded edged notebook, “Dreams become reality as soon as you write them down,” says it all. The ideal gift for all dreamers out there looking to turn their ideas into a reality, the perfectly sized notebook makes for the ideal companion on one’s daily excursions - for when those brilliant ideas “pop” and truly represents the origins of Yatzer.com which after all, began as an as-yet-unrealized dream ten years ago when founder Costas Voyatzis first scribbled the idea for it on the pages of a notebook.

KRAMA Studio has taken the art of correspondence to a new level with this custom designed mechanical pencil, the debut pencil in their collection created exclusively for the debut of 10 by Yatzer! Precision-milled out of solid brass and aluminum and hand-finished, this simple writing instrument is finally getting the attention it deserves. The aluminum body is deep anodized in carbon black which gives it a smooth and modern feel; twisting and untwisting the slightly blasted brass grip reveals or conceals the graphite lead accordingly while the inspirational quote inscribed along the shank reads: “Dreams become reality as soon as you write them down.”

Can anything be more emblematic of Yatzer’s love of design than a gold heart with the word “DESIGN” engraved on its centre? Made out of cast pewter, this is the perfect little gift for anyone who loves design. Highly practical - the puffy heart can be used as a paperweight – the piece also has a more intrinsic purpose: as an emblematic reminder that the heart of what Yatzer stands for is great design and as all great designers know, the best designs tend to be the simplest.
