dietrich | untertrifaller recesses garage into wooden hill-edge residence in austria

set on a steep slope overlooking the hills in zwischenwasser, austria, architecture firm dietrich | untertrifaller has created this home as an elongated form, with access gained by a small bridge connected to a quiet side street.

the wooden structure is secured onto its irregular plot by reinforced concrete and continues its use of timber inside. the façade, ceiling, and floors are wrapped with a combination of silver fir and sawn oak.

a concrete bridge connects the passing road to the home; stretching over the steep hill edge directly into a sheltered garage space that is recessed into the structure. internally, the two-storeys have been organized to maximize the floor area available. the kitchen, dining and lounge are arranged within the L-shaped ground floor, with access to a balcony terrace area. downstairs, the two bedrooms with another terrace area leads directly onto the grassy surroundings through floor-to-ceiling glazed doors.
