Dream/Dive Platform made from salvaged materials is the ultimate summer hangout

There are few things better than hanging out by the lakeshore on a hot summer’s day, which is why Canadian design + build practice Studio North built the Dream/Dive Platform on the edge of Bobs Lake in Ontario.

Constructed from mostly salvaged materials, this timber hut by the water serves as a diving board and the perfect place to sleep and stargaze at night.Created as part of a collaborative weekend project, the Dream/Dive Platform comprises a 64-square-foot timber base with a covered space for sleeping on one end and a cantilevered diving platform on the other. The majority of the structure was built using reclaimed materials found locally and supplemented with 2x4s from a hardware store. Left unpainted, the minimalist building blends in with its forested surroundings and rocky, moss-covered landscape.

“The basic form is a result of available materials and tools,” write the designers. “The structure is stripped down to its essentials to support two elemental functions, sleeping and play. The screened in hut is the new favourite spot for star gazing on beautiful summer nights and the cantilevered diving platform replaces the need for coffee in the morning!” The designers also added a green, waxed canvas that can be unrolled over the hut to protect the interior from rain and snow.
