ForMobile: Designing National Identity

Sao Paulo’s ForMobile furniture fair adopted the theme of “Brazilianness” for its 2016 edition

Manufacturers, retailers and architects joined forces to create designs and patterns inspired by that country’s flora and fauna—the azulão bird, a freshwater fish called tambaqui and cajueiro, the cashew—which lent colors to wooden furniture lines of the same names. Other pieces evoked brita, the crushed stone common in Brazilian construction. And an innovative line, called Conexão, Connection, recycles old CPU cabinets into chairs and tables. Many of these products target a younger market. They are designed to add color, form and pattern to compact, functional environments.
