Orgatec: Digging into Materials
Orgatec 2016 offered a look at innovative products incorporating natural materials
Coffee grounds can be transformed into espresso cups and even wall and furniture panels. Another process uses heat-molded bamboo powder to make tableware. A French designer employed propolis, a natural biodegradable resin produced by honey bees, to fashion glass-like vessels. Upcycling food industry by-products has also broken new ground. A German designer transformed salmon skins into leather to cover an oak bench. And in Korea, a textile artist has created clothing from fabric dyed with red cabbage. Sensitive to the pH of rainwater, the apparel could warn the wearer in case of acid rain.
