Dar house

Focused on recreating Tunisian atmospheres, atelierFL designed a single family house on the coast of Bizerte, developed in two volumes: one highly exposed to the sea, and the other more introverted.

Feriel Lejri, from atelierFL, led the design of a single family house on the Nothern coast of Tunisia, on a 600 sqm sloping ground, rising toward the sea on one side and surrounded by two existing houses on East and South.

The main concept consisted in creating two different living experiences: one is highly exposed to the sea while the other one is introverted, breaking the connections with the street, the close neighbors and the sea. The design approach was to clear the ground and insert a platform with no view on the street, enclosing the services and some living spaces.

Two volumes are set on top this platform, facing the sea. The design of an internal open garden brings light and air into the rooms, which also share a terrace and a pool. The core of the project was the research for interior atmospheres generated by light, shadows and patterns. Dar is a typical Tunisian house developed around a central garden and protected from the outside, just like in Moroccan riads.
