This restaurant design was inspired by cracked eggs

p / s / d, also known as party / space / design, have recently completed Crack, a dessert, brunch and cafe restaurant in Bangkok, Thailand, whose name was inspired by the crunch sound when a knife cuts through their crunchy signature waffle.

Taking the inspiration from the name Crack, p / s / d took it a step further when designing the restaurant, and expanded the idea to ‘crack the egg’, which was interpreted as a small chick breaking open it’s shell to see the world. You can easily see how the design of the restaurant represents this thought by having an angular shape, much like a cracked egg shell.

If you look closely on the exterior of the restaurant, you can see tiny bird footprints on the facade.

The restaurant logo wraps around the corner of the facade and is backlit, making it easier to read at night.

The theme is carried on through to the interior of the restaurant that features egg shell elements, like on the walls. At the front of the restaurant, the facade of the building partially covers the windows.

The wooden service counter is partially covered with a ‘white egg shell’ and the logo.

On the walls, the ‘egg shell’ covers the dark wall, and hidden lighting highlights the ‘crack’.

Here’s a look at the chick breaking free from its shell, that also incorporates a wooden shelf.

Even the large table has ‘cracks’ running through the middle of it.
