10 Must-see designs from Sight Unseen Offsite 2015

Now in its second year running, Sight Unseen Offsite has become a must-see stop during New York Design Week for high-end work that blurs the line between art and design.

This isn't your garden variety design show - the works on display range from mind-bending installations to one-off furnishings and products crafted with surprising materials and innovative techniques. We've rounded up 10 of our favorite green designs from this year's show - take a look for yourself after the break.

Last year Chiaozza launched a papier mâché plant shop at Sight Unseen Offsite – and this year they unveiled an entire world of recycled paper critters. Creative duo Adam Frezza and Terri Chiao recycle their junk mail and old bank statements to create their colorful “Lump Numbins” and massive plant-topped islands, and their colorful geometric wall sculptures pop from blank walls with bright bursts of color.

Cups, liters, gallons, and ounces – unless you’re a baker, why be a slave to metric (or imperial) measurements? Mold and Visibility‘s Life Measured Pitcher lets you define how much water it takes to complete daily tasks – simply snap a ring around its base and you’ll instantly know how much liquid you need to water the plants or make fresh-squeezed lemonade.

Toronto-based designer Shane Krepakevich has a background in sculpture – and it shows in his perfectly proportioned lights and furnishings. This elegant LED lamp consists of two translucent sheets held taught by a balancing brass cylinder.

At last year’s Sight Unseen Offsite Huy Bui showcased a series of architectural planters shaped like tiny houses. This year, he unveiled a full-fledged skyscraper for plants! The horticultural high rise is made from locally sourced wood, it features a cascading fountain that waters plants from level to level, and it’s even outfitted with LED grow lights.

One of the highlights of this year’s show was The Principals‘ Dynamic-Sanctuary – a mesmerizing mirrored room that lets you stand on the edge of infinity. The finger sensor on the pedestal tracks your heartbeat and cues the lights to glow in time with your pulse, creating a deeply personal, meditative experience.

Brook & Lyn‘s new Rounded Metal Planters are spun by hand from thin sheets of steel. The beautifully

textured vessels make perfect homes for succulents and cacti.

Q&Q showcased their colorful new line of SPICE SmilesSolar watches at Sight Unseen Offsite. The waterproof watches are made from recycled materials, and a single hour in the sun provides enough energy for 4 months of runtime.

Yogis rejoice – Visibility teamed up with athletic apparel brand Outdoor Voices to create a line of chic objects for perfecting your poses. The collection is made form natural materials and includes a wood block, a triangular cork block, a wooden roller, a felt mat, and a resistance band.

Luur Design launched their beautiful new line of North South bracelets at Sight Unseen Offsite. Each bangle is made from two pieces of Corian held together by strong magnets. They’re available in a wide range of colors, shapes, and finishes – from granite and marble to solid hues – and you can snap them apart to mix and match.

Colonial Mills called upon Katie Stout to design a fun Instagram photo booth filled with plush rug-wrapped blocks and a giant cone (modeled here by the amazing Gillian Sturtevant).
