BENDER CHAIR OFFERS ERGONOMICS WITHOUT THE FUSS

A chair that uses carefully chosen materials to offer user-friendly comfort

German designer Frederik Kurzweg has banished fiddly levers and complicated hydraulic systems from his refreshingly minimal but ergonomic Bender Chair. Ergonomics are important for our overall health, especially when many of us spend the majority of our day in a chair, but Kurzweg wanted to rethink we apply such ideas. Rather than using mechanisms that add weight and bulk, the designer took advantage of the natural cushioning properties of steel and the flexibility of glass fiber to sculpt a chair that flexes and adapts to user movements. Gentle curves in the frame also add room for elasticity. The shell is handcrafted through an intense production process and padded with a sandwich core. It’s truly a slim alternative to traditional office seating.
