MAIJA PUOSKARI DESIGNS A MIRROR INSPIRED BY THE FINNISH MOUNTAINS

An object that reflects the calm and tranquility of a mountain lake

In Finnish, tyyni means calm or serene. It is thus only fitting that Helsinki-based designer Maija Puoskari should call her mirror and shelf combination. The mirror was inspired by the gentle reflection of Finland’s legendary Saana mountain in the glass-like surface of Kylpisjärvi lake. The choice of inspiration is no hazard: the designer spends her annual holidays at this particular spot. Her intention was thus to create an object that would capture the beauty of the location while remaining a practical home accessory. A shelf of Finnish wood is carved into the shape of Saana and is reflected in the surface of the cool blue mirror. A copper variation reflects the shape of Finland’s slightly less well-known Malla mountain.
