“DAY & NIGHT LIGHT” BY ÉLÉONORE DELISSE HELPS THOSE WITH SEASONAL DEPRESSION

A design that is both beautiful and potentially life-enhancing for sufferers of Seasonal Affective Disorder

Wallpaper Design Awards Life Enhancer of the Year’s 2015 prize went to “Day & Night Light” by Éléonore Delisse. Designed as part of the student’s graduation project at Design Academy Eindhoven, the light directly addresses the problem of Seasonal Affective Disorder, which affects millions of people around the globe each year. The lamp’s function is based on rotating dichroic glass, which projects different colors needed to rebalance the circadian rhythm. A blue glow in the morning helps stimulate wakefulness, while an orange glow at night helps one fall asleep. According to Delisse, design connects, promotes awareness and stimulates learning and activity, while the best products and services have human experience at the core.
