PECA TURNS VOLCANIC STONE INTO TEXTURED LAVA PLATES

The independent Mexican design studio presents a set of volcanic stone plates with brass accents

Volcanic rock is a magical material. And not just because of its spewed-lava origins, but also for its ability to transform from rough and porous to ice-slick with a simple polishing. Peca, a Mexican design studio based just outside of Guadalajara, decided to highlight the stone’s unique quality with their Lava Plates.

Designed by Caterina Moretti and Ana Saldaña, the collection of three plates creates a direct contrast between rough, natural volcanic stone and its lustrous counterpart. Craftsmen caress and polish the stone to give it an ebony glow, which directly opposes the stone’s raw beauty. The collection is completed by brass accents that further emphasize the stone’s raven hue.
