STOCKHOLM 2015: INGA SEMPÉ IMPROVES THE CLAMP LAMP FOR WÄSTBERG

The bedside lamp we all know and love gets a clever makeover from the French designer

Ever convenient, the clamp lamp is the ideal bedside companion for bookworms, but it has its limitations. If it is not firmly clipped to something, the clamp lamp cannot stand up on its own, limiting its overall utility. French designer Inga Sempé created an updated, contemporary version of the lamp for Swedish lighting giant Wästberg.

Rather than place the clamp at the bottom of the lamp, Sempé placed it on top of a flat base. Thus, as well as being clamped, the lamp can be set on a table or even mounted on the wall. The hat-shaped lampshade is connected with a magnet, meaning that it can be easily adjusted to different positions. It’s also pretty adorable.

The lamp itself is itty bitty, so it takes up no more space than the traditional version. Inga Sempé has truly opened a door of infinite clamp lamp possibilities, and for that, we thank her.
