IMM COLOGNE: CLAESSON KOIVISTO RUNE’S WAFER COLLECTION

A bold furniture collection that is reminiscent of childhood delicacies

Just looking at the Wafer Collection is making us hungry. With a simple, but sharp, contrast of light and dark wood, Swedish design trio Claesson Koivisto Rune created a striking and graphic pattern that has us dreaming of cookies and cream. Unfortunately, gnawing on wood isn’t very tasty.

The collection’s name obviously references the delicious sandwich cookies, but it also refers to the “wafer thin”quality of the furniture. Created for Japanese design brand Matsuso T, the imaginative pairing of Maple and Walnut is impressively smooth and seamless from top to bottom. Each piece seems as if it were made from one continuous piece of wood.

The stripes vary from piece to piece with wider stripes creating a more striking juxtaposition for the chairs.

The collection is currently being presented at IMM Cologne through January 25th. If you want more Claesson Koivisto Rune, be sure to check out our interview with the design threesome!
