ESPRESSO CUP BY THE OTHER HEMISPHERE & THE FORTYNINE STUDIO

A collaborative caffeine accessory from two Australian design collectives

Caffeine is our best friend. We love caffeine, and it loves us. Coffee is sometimes the highlight of our morning. But, unlike fellow caffeine addicts that dream of an intravenous drip, we also enjoy the ritual of coffee. Nothing is quite as satisfying as the daily routine of grinding, brewing and sipping. Such is our coffee obsession and such is our love for all objects that enhance the coffee drinking experience.

Therefore, we were thrilled when we happened upon these espresso cups designed by the Australian design collectives The Fortynine Studio and The Other Hemisphere. Slip cast in Australian porcelain, the stark, matte black and white exterior makes reference to the doubles hot of black liquid for which they are intended, while contrasting the white glazed interior. However, these tiny coffee vessels evoke so much more: opposing forces of dark versus light, glass half full versus glass half empty. It’s like philosophy for your morning brew, except it also comes with a smoked ash timber saucer to perfectly cradle your thoughts. Drink up!
