MIA BY PAOLA MONACO DI ARIANELLO
Italian design redefined by Paola Monaco di Arianello
After 6 years of collaborating with Carlotta de Bevilacqua at Danese, Milan-based designer Paola Monaco di Arianello seems to have broken new ground with Mia, an elegant table lamp made up of two separate elements that rely on one another. Mia is a stylish and functional table lamp that plays with convention, yet conveys a beautiful feeling of smooth harmony.
In fact, this seemingly simple table lamp series demonstrates more than just pure design. The two separate elements might seem independent, but each part needs the other to exist as a whole. It becomes an idealistic vision symbolized as clean and simple design. The style serves the idea and not the opposite.
The Mia series also takes a strong stand in the well-established world of Italian design. This very straight-to-the-point vision of design, almost feminine, strongly contrasts a much more outgoing and manly version of Italian design, perfectly symbolized by great designers such as Fabio Novembre. Paola Monaco di Arianello shows that Italian design is capable of a different approach.
