NEO LAMINATI COLLECTION BY KELLY BEHUN STUDIO
Contemporary furniture that draws inspiration from 20th century design movements
The New York City-based design firm Kelly Behun Studio was founded by Kelly Behun and specializes in custom interiors and furniture design. Drawing upon various 20th century design movements, the studio’s Neo Laminati Collection combines Avant Garde, OpArt and 1980’s Italian design with an encompassing minimalism.
For the bold and graphic collection, Behun decided to explore the potential of digital printing on plastic laminates. Plastic laminates have been used in design for years, but digital printing opens up a new world of custom laminates. A trip to Morocco took the idea of custom laminates even further. Behun established a partnership with local artisans in Marrakech who created woven rugs made from recuperated fabric. These rugs were then digitized and printed directly onto the laminate and juxtaposed with black and white stripes, blurring the lines between organic and digital.
Several elements of the collection were featured at last month’s Sight Unseen Offsite, and they are exclusively available for purchase at SUITE New York.
