S. LAMPS BY JOMI EVERS SOLHEIM

Elegant lamps inspired by Nordic snow lanterns

For some of us, winter already seems like a vaguely unpleasant memory, which is why we would like to apologize in advance for dredging up painful souvenirs of snow and ice. But the S. Lamps are worth it!

Norwegian designer Jomi Evers Solheim formed her S. Lamps in the likeness snow lanterns by creating molds out of snow.

Clearly, snow molds pose a variety of issues, most notably its tendency to melt above freezing, but the designer found a clever way to preserve the final shape. She inverted the shapes in plaster molds and cast them in porcelain clay to gain a permanent form.

The thin porcelain gives a delicate glow not unlike the snow lanterns from which they acquired their silhouette.
