A desk mixing computer design and artisanry

The Viva Desk is one of these creations that takes a step further towards the future of design and production. A quick look at its futuristic appearance might have us thinking that the geometrical lines and levels are the reason this table is one step ahead on its time. But that would not be entirely true. These lines tell us that SHIFT Design used computerized conception to materialize its thoughts. And if the use of computers in product design and architecture can be highly controversial (look at all the noise that surrounds Zaha Hadid‘s work for instance), here it becomes smart and even reasonable for a simple reason: this modern practice is coupled with the sense of artisanry that comes with eco-friendly materials. Indeed, the sensation of high speed and inhuman technology is counter balanced by the idea of sustainability conveyed by these materials. In the end, we have a beautiful and highly functional object.
