PEARSONLLOYD REVIVES TODAY’S OFFICE SPACE

The London-based design studio presents a new collection for Teknion

PearsonLloyd has revealed a collection of workplace furniture for Teknion, a Canadian company focusing on how the improved design of architectural office spaces contributes employees’ efficacy and well-being. Challenging the conventional notions of office spaces as well as how furniture has begun to play a more active role in their optimization are large aspects of the London-based studio’s approach. The pieces that PearsonLloyd’s fourteen-person team made for Teknion include a love seat, high table, and hat rack. Each of these pieces compliments the shifts happening in the modern workplace, reflecting a striving toward mobility, wellness and positive team work. The use of such natural and raw materials as wood, marble, glass and metal helps to balance the increasing presence of technology in the office environment.

According to Tom Lloyd and Luke Pearson, long-term research and development led to the creation of a series of semi-experimental products that explore ideas outside the typical constraints of workplace furniture. Advances in information technology have greatly impacted workplace design – particularly over the last decade – leading to the emergence of new behaviors in staff members who spend less time at their own desks and move about more freely. Working across various different types of space, from offices to transportation and healthcare centers as well as hotels and city spaces, PearsonLloyd’s focus is on the way furniture and space can affect and enhance people’s behaviors within the context of increased mobility and technological access. Lloyd and Pearson travel a great deal to be with clients, manufacturers and users, with the constant goal of discerning common global trends and enhancing unique local ones in a hands-on way.
