A new surface designed to preserve the strength and authenticity of concrete is the result of an interdisciplinary collaboration between designers, architects, craftsmen and artists, which has become something of a tradition.
Inspired by the Japanese aesthetic concept of wabi-sabi and the authentic beauty of the natural raw materials, a surface was developed that reflects the true nature of the materials based on the concept of “refined nature”. Wabi-sabi is an aesthetic concept that is closely associated with Japan and Zen Buddhism – the highly developed culture of the imperfect, impermanent and incomplete, which is reflected in a freedom of shapes, sublime colours and formal simplicity. Rieder understands how to preserve and maintain simplicity through its fascination with the natural and accidental as a sensitive architectural means of expression.
