AQUILONE – Centerpiece in Murano glass

veveglass

Oh, oh, oh. Let's go fly a kite. Up to the highest height. Let's go fly a kite. And send it soaring. Up through the atmosphere. Up where the air is clear. Oh, lets go fly a kite…...…This song from the film “Mary Poppins” synthesizes the beautiful message behind this wonderful movie. The kite represents the family throughout the movie, a bit battered and ripped at the beginning, not seen as very important by Dad, but it is the one who puts it back together in the end. As in the film, kiting the kites in the air thanks to the action of the wind makes happy. Adults and children look in the sky flying kites flutter and weeping for joy.

Colors and shape of this object remind the geometric and chromatic figure of the kites flying through the air using the action of the winds.

Being handmade the centerpiece is a unique item. The procedure to create this beautiful object is very complex and laborious. The first step is to compose the sequence of colors, while the second one is to create the shape. Like the mosaic technique this is realized using pastel and transparent Murano glass in a combination of colors, blended with gold leaves. The glass processing technique is performed entirely by hand. Like in the mosaic technique, even in this design, multicolored glass rods are meticulously cut and joined together, showing a multicolored flying kite.
