Gensler redesigns Wilkhahn showroom in NYC

Design company Gensler has redesigned the Wilkhahn showroom in New York – and presents classic and new pieces of furniture in a “real” working environment.

The variety of Wilkhahn’s range in all sorts of different settings is on show on the eighth floor of the historic Starrett-Lehigh building with conference rooms, teamwork spaces, single offices and even a patio offering not just inspiration to visitors, but also a contemporary workspace for Wilkhahn’s New York staff. Design studio Gensler, who Wilkhahn has already collaborated with on a number of projects for customers in the US, is responsible for the redesign.

“When we were thinking about how to redesign the Wilkhahn showroom, it quickly transpired that it was less about displaying the furniture and more about finding out how people today interact with their workspace and with one another,” explains Carlos Martínez, principal at Gensler. The new design focuses on the activities that take place and shows how office workers can actually use the furniture.

Victor Ramos, Wilkhahn managing director in New York adds that: “As one of the leading European manufacturers, we’re delighted with the consistent growth on the US and the New York market in particular.” The purpose of the redesigned showroom is to strengthen the ties to the design and architecture communities and make Wilkhahn even more well known as a manufacturer of high-quality office furniture.

Gensler is one of the world’s biggest architecture and design studios.
