Diversity, excellence and integrity are the challenging principles that global law firm McDermott Will & Emery ascribes to. In addition to an impressive number of global players as its clients (70 percent of which are DAX companies for example), the firm is also committed to giving back to the community and pro bono work. It employs over 2,300 people worldwide in offices in North America, Europe and Asia. McDermott Will & Emery’s headquarters are located in Chicago, where the firm was founded in 1934. The company has now moved into new premises in the recently completed River Point skyscraper.
River Point is located at the heart of Chicago’s pulsating West Loop neighbourhood, directly on Chicago River. With its 52 storeys, over 102,000 square metres of floor space and convex-shaped curved glass facade it’s not just a superb office high-rise. Pickard Chilton Architects (New Haven, Connecticut) placed enormous value on integrating the building with its urban surroundings: a terraced park, around 6,000 square metres in size and open to the public, puts the building in walking distance to the urban space and makes the riverfront accessible to the entire neighbourhood. Shops and restaurants on the skyscraper’s ground floor also make the outside area a lively place to be. Inside the building, the continuous glass facade doesn’t just provide plenty of daylight, but also offers panoramic views over the skyline of the city all the way to Lake Michigan.
