Shoji: decorates, divides, separates

A multifunctional and graceful furnishing object, Shojicustomizes the domestic spaces, from the living-room to the bedroom

Designed for hybrid and nomadic home uses, the screen with console-shelf by the architects Paolo Lucidi and Luca Pevere for Zanotta (2015) can act both as a partition system, and as a supporting surface. «Like in the bestZanotta’s tradition, this complement has a strong personality», tell the designers who has been working together since 2003 in the LucidiPevere Studio in Udine, dealing each time with new product typologies and investigating the aesthetic expression of the materials. «The essential solid oak structure, that frames the textile and stretches it, thanks to a small supporting shelf, is like a sheet of paper on which everyone can present one’s own “universe”. Shoji is essentially a unique textile screen, in between a partition-element, and a shelf. It can be inserted in your home as a wall moving within a domestic space and useable in different ways: as simple screen to achieve some intimate atmosphere (taking advantage of the sound absorbent properties of the fabric), as a coloured surface contrasting with the home furnishing or as a small desk to be set anywhere. We also like to think of Shoji as a big picture with feet, to highlight collections, memories, portraits. Abstract presence with a few essential lines, Shoji can easily change its look, appearing either minimal or figurative, depending on the colour of the fabric used. The archetype of the screen is changed and renewed, creating an unusual item.
