The Berlin based design label AMBIVALENZ has so far been known primarily for its space-saving folding furniture. Inspired by the shortage of living space in the German capital and other metropolises, Malte Grieb and his team designed the clever Fläpps system, which is constantly being developed and supplemented with new products. Now the next innovation follows: With the Curt sofa system, which was created in a cooperation with the German-Canadian designer Joa Herrenknecht, AMBIVALENZ presents its first upholstered furniture.
Flexibility, modularity and surprising transformations are the themes of Fläpps, and the new Curt sofa system adds to them. Curt scores with enormous freedom of design: millions of different variations can be created by the extremely flexible arrangement of the modules and by combining different fabrics and colours. In contrast to conventional modular sofa systems, however, Curt's planning possibilities go far beyond the decisions you make when buying furniture. Because Curt can also be completely freely redesigned after the purchase.
Behind its astonishing transformation abilities lies the intelligent structure of the sofa system: Curt consists of only one single modular shape. Several of these modules can be combined in any number and in completely different ways. The shape of the Curt module - a cuboid with a square base and a height equal to half the length of the base - is both simple and effective. This size ratio and the belt connection, which can be released at any time without tools, result in the unique and patent pending connection system.
The redesign of individual modules is equally uncomplicated. With the help of the surrounding zipper, the cover of each belt module can be quickly divided, removed and cleaned if necessary. The single cover parts can also be exchanged with each other or completely replaced after use. One blue and one red module can be changed into two blue-red modules in no time. Thanks to the smart "mix & match" principle, a Curt sofa can always look different and be redesigned if your own taste or the furnishings change. With its straightforward, minimalist design, Curt fits in with virtually every style of living.
Design lovers and city nomads who change their living space frequently will particularly appreciate the Curt sofa system, because it adapts flexibly to new living situations or spatial conditions. When the family grows, the modular sofa simply grows with it. Curt turns from a classic sofa with armrests into a corner sofa, from a sofa into a guest bed or from a large seating island into an even larger playground. A three-seater sofa becomes three individual armchairs in no time at all. Thanks to its modular construction, even a large curtain sofa landscape can be quickly disassembled into its individual modules, easily transported and just as easily reassembled.
