Applica docking system - Intelligent workstation networking for plug & work with sophisticated cable management

Applica from Assmann Büromöbel

Innovative docking system for office workstations

Sustainable office concepts have to meet challenging, complex demands: increasingly open office structures, the accelerating pace of the development of information and communications technology in the workplace, and the need to configure office space to resemble living areas in response to new ways of working are all important factors when planning facilities.

Office furniture manufacturer, Assmann, considered the aspects of workstation organisation, zoning, lighting, acoustics and building infrastructure when developing its all-new Applica workstation module. "The patent office has granted this innovation usage and industrial design protection," said Gerd Lauszus, Head of Product Development. The programme has also received the internationally recognised Red Dot Design Award 2015 for its ideal combination of design and function:

As the main structural element of the desk, the Applica module holds power and data cables, either from floor boxes or feed pipes from the ceiling, and internally distributes these over up to nine individual external sockets for various mobile devices. Permanently installed workstation hardware, such as monitors, printers, scanners, etc., can be securely connected via additional plugs inside the module. Thanks to the well-arranged cable management, mini PCs can also be accommodated in the Applica wall element, where lockable wall panels protect them against unauthorised access. To attach additional adaption elements, the frame profile is also equipped with a groove for holding monitor or tablet brackets, for example. Mountings are also provided for both desk and free-standing lamps. The Applica modules are available in three widths and two heights and a variety of colours.

Effective workstation zoning and efficiently organised spaces are essential for modern office concepts. The Applica wall module at the desk can be used for both screening the workstation within the available space and zoning interlinked work areas in a variety of configurations. Optional acoustically effective panels are available for the purposes of valuable sound absorption in large office units. The clear design features also support the need for modern working environments to intelligently integrate the many possibilities offered by communications technology to create an atmosphere of well-being in the workplace.
