Made-to-measure for each culture

Far from its standard products, ATECH manufactured this unique bench upon request of the oriental park of Maulévrier (Maine-et-Loire, France), the largest Japanese garden in Europe.

Thank to this personalized bench, the park was able to include western seats in harmony with the oriental environment where inhabitants are rather used to sit on a stone or directly on the ground.

Following the traditional gate curves from Japan, as we can see in red on the photos, the bench reflects the symbolism of this arch. Called torii, these gates are considered as the border between our real world and the spiritual world. Often located at the monasteries entrance or in nearly desertic places, these arcs are also defined as a “timeless passageway”. If you go under a torii, make sure you come back by the other way to go back on the real world. A lot of Japanese people have the custom to avoid torii, not feeling worthy to enter the timeless world.

The time of a rest on this bespoke bench, you can appreciate a moment of escape in the traditions and symbolism of Japan.

Bench in hot-lacquered steel and compressed bamboo slats.
