Madrid, Spain

BRIEF

The Spanish culture is a mix of tradition and innovation, where conservative habits coexists with subversive way of thinking and working; a great mix shaken together with belonging, passion, pride and a pinch of… sun.

STRATEGY

The sun is the center of the Spanish culture, and thus the concept for the Madrid LinkedIn office will be “The solar working system”. This concept is based on this approach to life, philosophy and behavior. We don’t care only about the results, but about the way you reach them and the connections need to walk through your path. In this region the local team feels the responsibility of working in a market that has suffered and it is still suffering from high level of unemployment. The energy of the sun drives the region towards goals beyond the recent difficulties.

We selected with the local team some regional attitudes that are transforming the economy of the country: everything turns around the “El Patio de Luz”, the heart of the concept, the place for relations and sharing, the place where people can stay together as colleagues but having fun as a family.

“Know to transform” area takes inspiration from the Iberian excellence in using renewable energy, representing the self-awareness to boost results, the understanding of your real skills to work on it to reach the best results; here you can find ‘changing’ meeting room structure to brainstorm, explore and create new ideas.

“I will be” is the learning area, inspired by the amazing cultural heritage of the region. A library and a training room represents metaphorically the way Spain is investing in feeding the knowledge to grow the talents.

“Want to do” area is inspired by the capacity of creating great business even in new fields, like fashion. The area is conceived by a different point of view that becomes a language to win people’s heart: a language of art and materials; concentration, mental break and focus are the main activities here.

The “Try it out” area represents the local attitude of creating innovation through experimentation, the dream lab, the Spanish will to evolve from the past to change the future; a restless area to inspire new ideas.

DESIGN

ARRIVAL EXPERIENCE

The ‘’Economic Graph’’ represents the vision of the future for LinkedIn; its shapes, mixed with the memories of the Sierra Madrileña skin, are transformed in a conceptual ‘wood skin’ that embraces the reception.

The reception area brings the visitor in an immersive brand experience where the global values have been represented within a local soul (Economic Graph, IN BUG, Logo).

‘’El Patio de Luz’’

‘’El Patio de Luz’’ is the central element of the project as it conceptually controls and is the point of convergence of the orbits of all the other spaces, evoking the historical relationship between the Iberian culture and the sun. This space, designed for socialization, communication, and convivial moments, uses a wood pergola, a retro-illuminated ceiling and a reinterpreted traditional ceramic flooring to convey the essence and the quality of the typical Iberian patio.

“Know to transform”

This area represents the capability to understand your real skills, to work on it and reach the best results; the most important example is the Iberian talent with the renewable energy that has been interpreted through the transformation of spaces, colors, lights and shapes. Rotating lighting shelves, gradient tones and evolving shapes became the soul of this area.

“I will be”

The amazing Iberian literature became a symbol of pride, culture, and the importance of feeding and growing talents.

This area has a Sharing Library where Members can share their favorite authors and a meeting room with a conceptual ceiling evocating the mission of feeding talent with knowledge.

The incredible potential of the Social Network in changing professional life is shown in The LinkedIn for Good wall, were the voluntary projects organized from the employees are collected, just in front of the Members Stories wall, where successful members illustrate through graphic and videos the goals that have been reached.

“Want to do”

Spain showed many times its incredible talent to realize great things starting from scratch. The Spanish fashion sector is a recognizable example of how it is possible to succeed in a field historically dominated by other countries.

The concept of willingness and determination to overcome the limits through an innovative language has been interpreted with the idea of changing the point of view. The brainstorming area becomes a lounge area reconfigurable in endless layouts inside a fabric/metallic nest. The Picasso drop in room celebrates as well the reinterpretation of reality through a deconstructed wall.

Additionally, an art wall from the Madrid artist Ruben Sanchez celebrates this office area: A figure riding a strong and energetic bull (there’s no better animal to represent the Iberian soul) coming out from a prismatic cove, metaphor for the dark times, like the crisis that is still hitting Spain or the lack of inspiration in a creative process.

Outside of this cove, it’s like a color explosion, a world full of possibilities. The figure is overcoming any struggle and is ready to take on the world on a fighting bull, who is guiding him through the lighthouse on top of its head and its third eye. As LinkedIn helps to guide yourself and look for your best options, the bull does the same.

‘’Check also the wings on the guy, he’s a dreamer.’’

“Try it out”

The Iberian attitude to innovate through experimentation, to evolve from the past to change the future, from the visual art to the architecture and food, has conceptually affected this area.

Glass, steel and mirrors have been inverted from the standard destination use, becoming part of a conceptual metallic cube suspended on a glass structure under a mirror ceiling.

An interactive ‘Build your Skills’ wall allows employees to experiment in creating or scanning any idea through an innovative 3D printer.
