iF DESIGN AWARD 2026
Form follows you.
An invitation to rethink space.
What happens when urban furniture is created through large-scale 3D printing? When additive manufacturing enables new geometries, materials are reimagined and design can evolve freely in space?
With ONTIGO 10, BENKERT BÄNKE introduces a new generation of modular urban furniture produced through additive manufacturing – awarded the iF DESIGN AWARD 2026. The series combines architectural thinking, digital fabrication and sustainable material strategy into a system that goes far beyond conventional seating.
What emerges when more than 40 years of experience in manufacturing high-quality stainless-steel urban furniture meets large-scale 3D printing using 100% recycled industrial films?
An object that doesn’t just function – it creates an impact.
Architecture meets material intelligence
ONTIGO 10 is produced layer by layer using an additive manufacturing process. The 3D-printed modules made from glass-fiber-reinforced recycled plastic allow flowing, sculptural forms that would be difficult to achieve with conventional production methods.
The characteristic layered texture of the print creates a dynamic interplay of light and shadow depending on the angle of sunlight. The matte surface conveys a refined aesthetic while remaining highly functional: UV-resistant, durable and low-maintenance. Precision-crafted stainless-steel components combine high-tech production with German craftsmanship.
ONTIGO 10 – The modular system
The series consists of 21 combinable elements that can be arranged into individual seating landscapes – linear, curved or freely positioned in space. Modules with or without backrests, as well as additions such as armrests, tables or planters, provide numerous possibilities for urban spaces.
Thanks to the lightweight material, the elements can be positioned and assembled easily – without the need for heavy lifting equipment. A stainless-steel connection system ensures stability and allows extensions or reconfigurations at any time. Integrated drainage channels prevent water accumulation and support the self-cleaning effect of the surface.
Sustainability as a principle
ONTIGO 10 is manufactured in Bavaria, Germany, using 100% renewable electricity. Production is highly resource-efficient and requires no oil, gas or process water. The company operates as a climate-positive manufacturer.
Stainless-steel components contain up to 80% recycled material, while the 3D printing process uses 100% recycled industrial plastic films. The result is durable, low-maintenance furniture that is fully recyclable.
