Public Space Trends As Destinations Embrace Reopening

The COVID-19 virus began last year and took the world by storm.Since then humankind has seen a lot of changes and has started to adapt to the new normal.

Lockdown, quarantine, sanitization etc are a part of our everyday lexicon. Countries announced self quarantine and imposed restrictions on heading outside and the people obeyed responsibly. Although the lockdown did help to reduce the spread of the virus, it did take a toll on a lot of businesses. Be it the food industry or retail stores, everybody faced a bit of damage.

As the situation has started to change and has become better than before, the world is slowly coming back to normal. Non essential services like bars and restaurants, cinema halls, public parks have started to reopen. People are finally allowed to leave their homes after months, and they sure are doing it.

1. Improved Public Spaces

As people were locked inside of their houses, the streets were empty. The government saw this as an opportunity to spruce up public spaces. The local government made necessary repairs and fixed a lot of things as the usual outdoor public furniture like park benches, bus stands, bike racks etc were not in use, This has changed the usual worn out city landscape and has beautified the city, making it more welcoming for the people once everything gets back to normal.

2. Excited Crowds

The quarantine took a toll on people’s social life as they couldn’t go out to grab a quick bite or catch a late night movie, for months. Since the lockdown is raised people are excited and are all ready to go out on adventures. As the non essential services have started to open, people are crowding up these spaces in overwhelming amounts. This will have a good impact on the business industry and will help people overcome their losses. A lot of people are visiting parks to relax on public benches outdoors in public parks to breathe in the fresh air.

3. Public Transportation

Many industries today have adapted to the modern day work from home culture and allow their employees to work at their comfort. This has not only made things efficient but also has cut off the daily unnecessary commute that people had. This has indirectly affected public transportation, but in a good way. Trains and busses are less crowded compared to before. People are using public transportation less than before and maintaining social distancing wherever necessary. Some public transportation are running on 50% capacity to avoid the spread of the virus.

4. Public Sanitization

The virus has made people aware about hygiene and cleanliness. A lot of organizations have started to install sanitizer points along with other public furniture for safety purposes. Bluestream’s SaniStation is one such safety installment that can help people sanitize their hands with minimal and safe interaction. It can be installed in any public space and its modern design blends in perfectly with any surrounding. The virus has not fully vanished and we as responsible citizens must take necessary measures to stop it from spreading and make this world healthier again.
