NEW: straight staircase by Canal Engineering

CANAL Architectural was recently tasked with the manufacture and installation of multiple mild steel plate staircases for the Bonhams Auction House in London.

From the initial designs and 3D visuals, into the Nottingham workshop where the staircase was manufactured, CANAL made sure everything was accounted for to create the perfect curved balustrade and tread pattern.

12mm mild steel plate was used for the main structure of the staircases in the building, which was installed and sprayed onsite. Timber clad was installed by others and finished by CANAL adding satin polished, stainless steel handrails.

The chosen style continued throughout the building with added glass balustrade panels on each floor for a contemporary contrast. CANAL installed these glass balustrade panels and completed the look with a subtle stainless steel top plate.

As with many projects encountered by the CANAL team all aesthetic and regulatory requirements had to be met on this roof top balustrade. It had to comply with BS6399; loadings for residential balustrade, adhere to the 100mm gap ruling and still be pleasing to the eye and relatively low maintenance; especially due to there being over 400m of balustrade in total.
