AMONG THE CLOUDS IN THE NAME OF DESIGN
Maurizio Manzoni creates a sofa for Cantori in the name of expressive freedom, and maximum comfort.
To leave behind the hustle and bustle of everyday life and surrender to the enveloping embrace of a generous seat, in search of a weightlessness that’s not only formal but also a state of mind. The Cloud sofa, the brainchild of Maurizio Manzoni, fulfills this desire and brings a bit of relaxation up to the clouds, just like its name would suggest. Capable of transforming to fit the space in which it’s placed, with soft forms and the essentiality of its supporting structure, it represents Cantori’s natural stylistic evolution, reconciling the use of metal with a new interpretation of the lounging area. A T-shaped structure supports the rounded seats and backrests, which can be positioned according to need. Meanwhile, the rubber interior with four different densities expresses the highest level of comfort, embracing the mind and providing the body with the right level of support. The solid iron rod, which holds up the soft upholstered surfaces as load-bearing columns, references the origins of Cantori as a company specializing in brass and ironwork, founded in 1976 in Camerano, a small town near the Conero mountain. It’s a point of convergence with the company’s extensive tradition, reinterpreted in a contemporary key and sparking a dialogue with the soft cladding material: opposites that complement one another and define Cloud’s modern character. Two upholstered systems in different shapes and lengths, along with a matching ottoman, are the elements behind the many potential combinations for the Cloud sofa, which can be made by playing with volumes, features and colors. Linear or with a peninsula, equipped with an armrest and a headrest, its welcoming presence can furnish large or small rooms by fusing relaxation and functionality. What’s more, there are also covers and finishes available to adapt the piece for use outdoors. From a stylistic point of view, however, the purity of its lines recall elegant and refined architectural environments.
