Blue Willow

It’s impossible to truly appreciate this collection, if you don’t know the story and the legend behind it. The story is that of a motif created at the end of the 18th century by a famous english ceramist. The legend, on the other hand, is about a wealthy Mandarin and his beautiful daughter, who fell in love with a humble clerk. Her father wanted her to have nothing to do with him; he promised her in marriage to a Duke, and said they would be married when the blossoms fell from the branches of the willow tree. But on the eve of their wedding, the poor clerk took the Duke’s ship and carried off the beautiful girl to a remote island, where they lived happily for years, until the Duke discovered them, at which point the gods saved the lovers from certain death by transforming them into doves. The descriptive white, blue and red of the fragments is therefore backed up by a legend to tell curious visitors. When you have had enough of telling it over and over again, you can always take it apart and rewrite it.
