Dekton® XGloss shines at the Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week in Madrid

• Cosentino’s ultra-compact surface and the five colours of this new series came together last Saturday at the 2016 Mercedes Benz Fashion Week in Madrid to create a spectacular catwalk for the Barcelona firm Ailanto to show its collection for this coming Autumn/Winter.

• This design, measuring 96 m² and created from a mosaic of pieces in the colours Halo, Splendor, Lumina, Blaze and Spectra, resulted in a unique catwalk that displayed all the extraordinary properties and performance of Dekton® XGloss.

Madrid, 22 February 2016.- Cosentino Group, world leader in the production and distribution of innovative surfaces for architecture and design, took part once again in the world of fashion and haute couture, this time with its latest Dekton® XGloss collection of ultra-compact surfaces. The five colours of this new series created a spectacular catwalk last Saturday at the 2016 Mercedes Benz Fashion Week in Madrid for the Barcelona firm Ailanto to show its collection for this coming Autumn/Winter.

The followers and spectators at this latest edition of the MBFWM16 witnessed the perfect combination of the elegance, colour and subtlety of Ailanto's collection, together with the dazzling brilliance and radiance of Dekton® XGloss. This 96 m² design, which was 30m long and 3.2m wide, was created from a mosaic of pieces in the colours Halo, Splendor, Lumina, Blaze and Spectra, and resulted in a unique catwalk that displayed all the extraordinary properties and performance of this ultra-compact surface by Cosentino.

Ailanto's designer, Aitor Muñoz, talked about this collaboration: “we chose Dekton® for our catwalk because we wanted to show our collection on a material that offered spectacular performance and aesthetics. Our idea was to have a geometric pattern that was in line with our collection, and this was interpreted to perfection by Cosentino's technical team. The image of the models walking down the catwalk was amazing. The impression was of a sophisticated and timeless elegance.”

The Dekton® Solid XGloss collection, presented at the beginning of this month, is the latest example of Cosentino's ongoing ability to innovate. In order to achieve this spectacular result, Cosentino Group´s R&D department spent almost two years developing a pioneering and revolutionary treatment based on a nanotechnology called the “Nanocoating Process”. This allows glossiness, radiance, bright solid colours and high levels of durability to come together to perfection in a material that offers enormous creative possibilities for architects and designers, and even for the surface of a catwalk for one of Spain’s most prestigious fashion brands.

Ailanto is already a classic and their ideas are among the most followed and valued in the world of design in Spain. Originally from Bilbao, but now based in Barcelona, brothers Iñaki and Aitor Muñoz set up the firm in 1955 and are famous for their colour combinations, geometric shapes and references to avant-garde movements. Since 1999, Ailanto's prêt-à-porter collections have been sold internationally and they have been present at the Pasarela Cibeles and the Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week in Madrid since 2001.

For this latest edition of MBFWM, Ailanto presented their 2016-2017 Autumn/Winter collection that was inspired by the paintings of Lawren Harris (1885-1970), one of the most famous Canadian artists of the 20th century. His landscape paintings were the starting point for the collection. Framed as if viewed through the window of a train, the landscapes of forests, mountains, skies and lakes are transferred to the fabrics until they become detailed botanical close-ups, almost to the point of geometrical abstraction.

For Santiago Alfonso, Cosentino's Director of Marketing and Communications “it gives us great pride to take part in this Fashion Week in Madrid and to collaborate on this occasion with Ailanto. I believe that our worlds and the way we approach the sphere of creativity and design are very similar. This was clear this past Saturday by the combination of two collections; one of clothes and the other of decorative materials, both of which were in perfect harmony.”

Thanks to this new partnership, Cosentino strengthens its links to the world of fashion. In 2010, with a catwalk made from Silestone® – another of its benchmark products –, the company also took part in the Pasarela Cibeles, on that occasion with the Madrid designer Juan Duyos whose inspiration for his “Colorama” collection came from the Life series of this global leader’s brand of quartz surfaces. Other unique actions have been the collaboration in 2011 with the most prestigious modelling competition in the sector, the “Elite Model Look”, and the annual “The New Generation by Francina” competition where this famous modelling agency chooses the new and promising new faces of fashion.

About Ailanto

Originally from Bilbao, but now based in Barcelona, brothers Iñaki and Aitor Muñoz set up the firm in 1955 and are famous for their colour combinations, geometric shapes and references to avant-garde movements. Since 1999, Ailanto's prêt-à-porter collections have been sold internationally and they have been present at the Pasarela Cibeles and the Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week in Madrid since 2001. They have their own boutiques in Barcelona and Madrid, and their creations are also sold in Japan, the United States, Germany, China, Belgium, Cyprus, Saudi Arabia and Kuwait.

Combinations of colours, geometrical shapes and references to contemporary and avant-garde artistic movements are the main characteristics of their work.
