Cotto d’Este: beautiful contemporary details

A selection of projects involving Cotto d’Este illustrates how carefully chosen and appropriate floor and wall coverings are an essential second skin for high-end projects, such as an ultra-modern German villa, a private residence set in a Milanese garden or a country retreat in France. Stories of houses, but, above all, of sophisticated beauty.
In Germany, the Engelshove Bau-Gmbh firm has designed a villa characterised by its minimal, bright and modern architecture: spaces flooded with natural light and surrounded by nature, in which the ground floor is dominated by rolled concrete-effect floors from Cotto d’Este’s X-Beton collection, in the Dot 70 version. This matt and tactile solution offers a slight patina effect that makes it cosy and particularly soft. Noticeable depth effects are visible on the surface, which embraces all the living areas with its elegant and delicate dove-grey colour. The X-Beton collection is also part of the Protect® line, whose antibacterial properties – it kills up to 99.9% of bacteria, 24 hours a day – and remarkable performance ensure that your home is protected and safe.
Nature and technology are perfectly aligned in a three-storey villa set in a garden in Milan. The project, created by Paolo Agliardi in collaboration with Architect Gaia Tornabene, features a pleasing alternation of empty and full spaces that convey a light and airy atmosphere.
The material used for this villa’s “skin” is Kerlite, in the 3.5 mm version from Cotto d’Este’s Over collection, which was mainly chosen to harmoniously blend with the landscape. The dark and natural chosen colour, “Road”, is also well-suited to the context. Over is a line inspired by industrial concrete settings, reinterpreted through a ceramic product that boasts very high quality, in terms of not only its material composition and processing, but also its excellent technology, which guarantees outstanding aesthetic and technical performance with an ultra-thin thickness.
Finally, situated in the Languedoc-Roussillon region in France and surrounded by lush vegetation, the new project by interior designer Rossend Cortés consists of a newly built house imagined as a contemporary version of a country barn, which pays homage to the concept of a country retreat.
The 190 sq m apartment is organized around a large central volume, which, in a diaphanous space, contains the living area consisting of a kitchen area, dining room and living room. A space characterised by high and sloping ceilings and accentuated by three trusses with exposed wooden beams painted white. The floor selected in neutral tones highlights the walls, in a bold amaranth and wood colour, producing a very balanced final result. In this project, Cotto d’Este’s concrete grey porcelain stoneware floors and the sturdy and elegant wood of the furnishings and coverings create a harmonious and refined chromatic dialogue.
Throughout the house the floor is covered with Cotto d’Este’s Limestone in the large size and in the “Amber” and “Slate” colour variants: a matt and particularly tactile collection with a slight patina effect that makes it soft and enveloping. The large terrace, in line with the other rooms, is also covered with the same porcelain stoneware as the interiors, in this case in a smaller format and with a non-slip surface.
The three projects therefore express the potential of Cotto d’Este, which, thanks to a wide choice of collections, formats and thicknesses, is able to perfectly complement distinctive and sophisticated private home projects in which the application of ceramic surfaces extends from floor coverings to wall coverings and even to external facades.
