DAUBY OPENS THE DOOR FOR:

SHUT THE DOOR…

Top Design

Dauby’s modern Design collection is a range of unique creations by contemporary top designers. Authentic shapes that tell their own story and bear the master’s signature. The door handles designed by Philippe Starck, Enrico Baleri, Hannes Wettstein, Giacomo Giustizieri and Dirk Ploos van Amstel are genuine eye-catchers that will embellish any modern and trendy home interior.

“We are actively looking for young and promising talent. That is how our cooperation with Dirk Ploos began”, says Dauby. Dauby offers the latest trends in home interior decoration. Time definitely never stands still here. “We are continuously following up the newest trends.”

Dirk Ploos van Amstel in the spotlight: an unparalleled designer

This Dutch designer’s name is as unusual as his customers are ‘disobedient’. A prerequisite of crucial importance to Dirk Ploos van Amstel. He knows that any design will eventually fall prey to appropriation. The customer will identify with the design. As a consequence, the exit points for each and every single one of Ploos van Amstel’s designs are the customer and the way he will use the product.

Creating and educating

In 2005, Dirk Ploos van Amstel left Utrecht University as a Master of Arts in User Interaction Design. He started working as a project manager and functional developer, until he returned to the university buildings. Not as a student, but as a lecturer and the coordinator of the project bureau ‘Doing New Things’.

The enfant terrible of product design

In 2001, Ploos van Amstel founded his own studio in Maastricht, where he passionately designs furniture, coat stands and door handles. The fact that he does not conceal the construction of these designs is typical Ploos van Amstel. On the contrary, he draws your attention to it.

Take the door handle Shut the Door, Have a Seat. The mechanism, which is normally concealed in the door, is on the outside and becomes an integral part of the door handle itself. This harmony provides a welcome contrast with the traditional styles concealing the construction of the object behind a trendy design.

This unusual design was selected for the spectacular redecoration of hot spot TOKYO EAT, the restaurant of the Palais de Tokyo in Paris.

“It’s the first door handle to win a Biennale Interieur Design Award”, underlines Dauby. Shut the Door, Have a Seat (SVING) is distributed exclusively by Dauby.

Winner of the Biennale Interieur 2014 Design Award!

A stronger connection

If you actually see how the construction works, you will develop a much stronger connection with the everyday objects in your environment. We use dozens of door handles each day of the week, but we never ask ourselves how they work. Until we are confronted with a Ploos van Amstel door fitting. His door handles are available in black, white and red, and will match any home interior.

Practical

Dauby imports exclusive door, window and furniture fittings from Europe. Dauby only works with natural materials who are casted authentically in sand moulds. All products are entirely hand-made, so every piece is unique! This lends character to the object so that it stands out from the mass-produced goods that are so prevalent in today’s throw-away society.
