Duco’s Titanium Screen to be Presented at Stainless Steel Expo 2023

Chance to see the titanium screen in Europe

In the city of Maastricht, the Netherlands, the Stainless Steel World Conference & Expo 2023 (https://stainless-steel-world-event.com/) is to be held from 26 to 28 September at Exhibition & Congress Centre (MECC). It is the renowned conference and exhibition where industry experts all over the world meet together, and it celebrates the 13th year.

Tokyo Stainless Grinding Ltd.(http://tskenma.com), the pioneer of stainless grinding industry in Japan and famous for its artistic work, is joining the exhibition to show its expertise, at the booth C102. One of their proud exhibition products is the titanium screen “Wind God and Thunder God”. It is the titanium screen with titanium Maki-e decoration, made by Duco, and mirror polished by Tokyo Stainless Grinding.

The screen consists of three panels of titanium sheet, and the size of each panel is 2500mm(H) X 1500(W) . The image is inspired by the “Wind God and Thunder God” drawn by old screen master Sotatsu Tawaraya. The original screen is located in Kennin-ji Temple in Kyoto. The exact date of its completion is not known, but around late 17th century, when people were still under threat and respect of natural power. Sotatsu painted it with genuine gold on paper, while Duco made the modern screen of titanium with urushi lacquer and titanium powder.

Here, both right and left panels are mirror polished, while the center is of Titan-urushi, or titanium and natural urushi, the unique technology of Duco. By combining these 2 types of surfaces, the two gods have a look of moving around in the space. The mirror polished surfaces reflect the background too that they look like just appeared in this scenery. The center panel was designed so that the person looking in front of it is reflected in it with the robe of Thunder God wrapping around, to be a part of the scene.

It is absolutely a rare chance to see the titanium screen in Europe, at the Stainless Steel Expo.
