Champalimaud Center for the Unknown – Portugal

Effisus Project

Champalimaud Centre for the Unknown is a centre for cancer research and treatment designed by the Goan architect Charles Correa, in the Portuguese capital of Lisbon. The building’s contemporary architecture, covers an area of 60,000m2 facing the River Tejo.

The main building houses the Champalimaud Clinical Centre’s diagnostic and treatment facilities, with an indoor garden, research laboratories and administrative services, all interlinked to promote discussion and collaboration between scientists, clinicians and other professionals. The Champalimaud Centre for the Unknown is a state-of-the-art facility for science, medicine, technology and is for public use.

Charles Correa, the architect, said: “We tried to create a piece of architecture. Architecture as Sculpture. Architecture as Beauty. Beauty as Therapy.”

On this prestigious project Effisus Breather B and Effisus Ecofacade solutions were used to ensure water and air tightness of façade’s connections, maximizing energy efficiency, acoustics and protection against condensations.
