ICON/academia is the stackable stool designed by Simone Bellan for Emmesystem, the Emme Italia brand dedicated to the contract sector.

Every year, the Permanent Design Observatory, an institution of ADI – Associazione per il Disegno Industriale (Association for Industrial Design), analyses and selects the finest examples of Italian design through a rigorous evaluation carried out by expert committees active throughout the country.
The projects chosen by these committees are included in the ADI Design Index, the official selection that represents the best of Italian design and serves as the basis for the prestigious Compasso d’Oro ADI Award.

We are pleased to announce that the ICON/academia stool has been selected for the 2025 edition of the ADI Design Index and nominated for the Compasso d’Oro ADI, one of the most authoritative international recognitions in the world of design.

This important achievement confirms our ongoing commitment to the research of design and production solutions that enhance functionality and beauty, formal simplicity and attention to craftsmanship — values we have developed and strengthened over more than 30 years of experience in the sector.

From 16 to 30 October 2025, the ICON/academia stool will be exhibited alongside the other projects selected for the 2025 ADI Design Index at the prestigious ADI Design Museum in Milan.

From 12 to 28 November 2025, the ICON/academia stool will also be on display with the other selected projects for the 2025 ADI Design Index at the Palacongressi in Agrigento / Italian Capital of Culture.
